At Winters Flat Primary School one of our main aims is to ensure we have a positive school culture where everyone in our school community can feel connected, valued, safe and happy. To support this we actively promote values and the importance of relationships, communication and understanding.

It is our vision:
To create an inclusive school community where students develop the academic, physical, social, emotional, creative and moral skills that are the foundation for success in life. A school that celebrates diversity and promotes a deep respect for the environment and for each other.

In our delivery of the SPACE (Social, Physical, Academic Creative and Emotional) framework, we value each of the elements in developing the whole child and strive to ensure our structures and programs enable our students to flourish.

Every child is an individual who is encouraged to develop a high level of achievement across all curriculum and learning areas. It is our collective responsibility to develop their full potential as thinking, responsible and caring individuals.

In supporting every child we encourage a strong home and school partnership.

We have high expectations of our students and want them to achieve to the best of their ability.

We have “Cobbers”, which is a mentoring program where a senior student is paired with a junior student with a pastoral role, which includes social/emotional as well as academic support.

Developing resilience in our students and the ability to bounce back from adversity or setbacks is a priority.

We have also begun a connection with the Berry Street Education Model, a research-informed, multifaceted and systemic approach to engage children in their learning. Wellbeing and engagement is at the core of the Berry Street Educational Model, with a strong emphasis on positive psychology and positive education.

Restorative Practices are one of the preferred means of dealing with conflict in our school. Restorative Practices are not only about restoring relationships but include proactive processes, which deescalate or prevent harm. It is every school’s responsibility to try to prevent bullying and to respond to student concerns in a timely manner.
