I am very proud to be the Principal of Winters Flat Primary School.

I was appointed to Winters Flat Primary School in October 2017, after teaching at Auburn South PS in East Hawthorn for 18 years. I started there as the Performing Arts Specialist and for the final five years spent there, was Assistant Principal.

 I have taught in generalist classrooms as Team Leader and Curriculum Co-ordinator, Specialist Visual Arts and Music and studied post-grad with Christoph Maubach in Orff Schulwerk – an instructional method developed by German composer Karl Orff.  My teaching experience has included schools in Gippsland, the Latrobe Valley, Footscray and Hawthorn.

Whenever possible I try to connect with students through the Performing Arts and am keen to increase my teaching, to spend time with every class.

One of the things that made me want to work at WFPS was its reputation and incredible leadership in Sustainability, which saw the school achieve runner-up as Sustainability School of the Decade in 2017!  Another is the strong connection our school has with our Koorie community and their rich cultural heritage.

I was also drawn to the clearly articulated vison statement: “To create an inclusive school community where students develop the academic, physical, social, emotional, creative and moral skills that are the foundation for success in life. A school that celebrates diversity and promotes a deep respect for the environment and for each other.”

I will continue to lead and support our school in living this statement.

I am grateful to have the support of some wonderful colleagues. All staff are committed to seeing our students thrive and take a strong interest in each child beyond those in their immediate care. We have a Wellbeing Co-ordinator who works with teachers and students to ensure we provide pastoral care and support to everyone in our school.

Our SAKG was established in 2007 and I am so impressed by the program and the broader implications it has across other curriculum areas. The WFPS program is making a huge difference to the lives of the students who participate.

I love the SPACE (Social Physical Academic Creative Emotional) concept and aim to ensure that we continue to be The SPACE to grow.
