NEWS | From The Principal

BUILDINGS: IMPACT ON DROP–OFF AND PICK-UP NEXT WEDNESDAY 24th JUNE

The delivery of the 8 modular sections will directly impact drop-off and pick-up next Wednesday. We are encouraging parents to use the Johnston Street Bridge or the Ray Street block entrance as preferred drop off areas next Wednesday 24th June. There will be significant impact on traffic flow in Roberts Avenue with the 8 trucks arriving and it will be blocked for most of the day.  There will also be an extensive traffic management system in place to ensure safety for children as they arrive for school and leave.

  • The modular sections of both the new multi-purpose room and the new art room are now due for delivery next Wednesday 24th June – the new completion date is the first week of August.
  • The evaporative cooling system in the Administration and SLC building has been replaced with a bushfire compliant system and will be ready for use when the warmer weather returns.
  • Oakview has been demolished.
  • The Kitchen is now being remodelled with a new external façade – due for completion by end of July - Week 2 Term 3.

RETURN TO SCHOOL REFLECTIONS

I just wanted to say how lovely it has been to have most of our students back at school this past week. We are mindful that the routine of school takes time to adjust to and are aware that many children are finding the school days quite tiring after such a long break. I’d like to congratulate the children for coming back to school so enthusiastically and to thank parents and carers for respecting the regulations currently in place. We are all hopeful that there will be an easing of restrictions next term. Most of the children we have asked have said the best thing about being back was reconnecting with friends.

I’d particularly like to thank all the staff at Winters Flat PS for the effort they have put in during this challenging term. We’ve had some lovely messages of support from parents and carers and we were touched by the letter in the Castlemaine Mail on Friday 29th May. The term ends next Friday 26th June at 2.30pm.

RESOURCESMART AWARDS 2020

Winters Flat PS was a finalist in the categories of community leadership and curriculum leadership but we were unsuccessful this time. We congratulate Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School, Ocean Grove who were worthy winners in both categories. Special thanks to Terry for all his work in helping the school make it to the finals.

ENROLMENT DRIVE VIRTUAL TOUR FOR 2021 PREPS

In normal circumstances we would have had open days during Education Week in May to promote the school and invite tours of the school for prospective prep students and their families.

At our School Council meeting last night we talked about the need to highlight the strengths of our school as well as encouraging enrolments for 2021. Our new buildings will give us the capacity to deliver programs to many more students than are currently enrolled.

With restrictions currently in place, school tours are still out of the question. We are hoping to promote the school virtually via our website and welcome input from parents with skills in marketing, photography, graphic design, film and media to help create a promotional video or virtual school tour to draw attention to our wonderful school. We are also hoping to have some parent testimonials and would welcome your written endorsements. Please contact us at winters.flat.ps@education.vic.gov.au if you can assist.

The Castlemaine primary schools will combine for a proposed open week in August if circumstances allow, with advertising in the local papers and will connect with the pre-schools as we do each year.
