TERM 1 WRAPS UP
First term has certainly been a busy one which has included the whole school swimming program, NAPLAN Testing, Welcome to Country, Harmony Day and Football clinics. Classrooms have been busy hubs of learning and teachers have been participating in professional learning focussed on the teaching of numeracy as well as Disability Inclusion adjustments with coach Elizabeth Prossor.
With the holidays commencing this Thursday – just before Easter – I wish everyone a safe and happy break from school. Term 2 commences for students back at school on Wednesday 26th April.

ANZAC DAY CASTLEMAINE 2023
The first day of Term 2 – Monday 24th March is a Curriculum Day. As we won’t have students here at school that day, I am flagging the arrangements ahead of time.
The traditional ANZAC day march on Tuesday 25th April will commence at 8:45am at the Town Hall then via Hargraves Street, to the RSL Cenotaph in Mostyn Street, followed by the commemorative service. I am encouraging our school leaders and any other families who wish to join me in the march to wear their Winters Flat school uniform to represent our school. Two students will lay a wreath at the end of the service.
In another ANZAC Day tradition, Winters Flat PS is supplying ANZAC Biscuits for the RSL members’ morning tea and we extend our sincere thanks to Cath Chugg for organizing all the baking.

We would love some kitchen helpers in our cooking classes. They are held fortnightly on Mondays (even weeks), and every Wednesday, between 11:25am & 1:25pm.
What you can expect from a class: Students work in six groups to make six different dishes. Once a group finishes their dish, they clean up their bench, do dishes, and set the tables. Around 1:00pm, we all sit down together and share the meal.
Volunteers will need to sign in via the visitors log in the office and show their WWCC and Vaccination Certificate. Please contact the Karen or Kitty in the office if you would like to volunteer.

AT HOME
It’s the end of Term One! For many of you, those with preps for example, this will mark a huge success and be an opportunity to celebrate. Getting to school each day and getting through each week requires a lot of planning and cooperation... some weeks go better than others. But if you, as a family, have had success getting through the term then you have every right to feel proud. How will you reward your child or family for surviving Term 1?
A reward is a consequence for good behaviour. It’s a way of saying ‘Well done’ after your child has done something good or behaved well. It could be a treat, a surprise or an extra privilege. For example, as a reward for keeping their room tidy, you might let your child choose what’s for dinner. Here is a handy tip sheet and information on using praise, encouragement and rewards: https://raisingchildren.net.au/toddlers/connecting-communicating/connecting/praise
AT SCHOOL
Next term, I am going to bombard you with a whole lot of Body Safety and Internet Safety resources, so I will leave you with just a snippet. Follow this link for some awesome resources to get you started on thinking what factors you have in place at home to prevent your child/children viewing developmentally inappropriate content online: https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents
